Not Therapy. Not Counselling
Distinguishing Coaching from Therapy and Mentoring.
Coaching primarily focuses on the client's future, aiming to
enhance performance and unlock potential. While coaching helps individuals set
and achieve goals, therapy or counselling is more concerned with exploring the
client's past to resolve psychological or emotional issues, including mental
health disorders. It is important to note that a coach does not possess the
qualifications to diagnose or treat mental health.
Not mentoring. Mentoring often involves guidance from someone with greater
experience in a particular field, who shares their knowledge and advice with
someone less experienced. In contrast, coaching is a non-directive process
where the coach supports the client in discovering their own solutions, rather
than offering advice based on the coach's personal experience.
